Normally, we discuss how to find things for your home in order to complete a look or complement a certain style of decorating. This usually involves not only having furniture items of a particular style, but also having objects and “knick-knacks” to go along with it. But what if you decide that you want to change your style again? Now you have a load of stuff that doesn’t fit or complement the style you want. And there’s no better way to have a stuffy-looking and cluttered home than to have a bunch of stuff inside that doesn’t match or go well together.
So a little spring cleaning would be in order. But what to do with all that stuff? Do you just throw it out? That seems awfully wasteful, doesn’t it? Well, there’s a few solutions that are much better.
First, if all of the things you’re trying to get rid of are all from a particular style, then you could try to sell it as a complete set. Posting photos of how your home looks in the current style and then listing the items that complemented it (which you are now selling) may make for a nice incentive for another home decorator.
Next, there’s the tried and true method of having a yard sale. Just be prepared that this is going to get you the least return as people go to yard sales expecting dirt cheap prices and are also usually prepared to haggle with you. If some of the stuff you have isn’t worth that much anyways, you may just want to sell the choice items at your local Hollywood pawn shops and yard sale the rest.
Finally, there’s always donating. Places like Goodwill and The Salvation Army will often accept household items.
So make room for you next home look and start off with a fresh canvas.
